I completed the conversion course from Spaceplane to Flyer at the beginning of 2598. After number of imprints and academiks I was cleared to take my first flight in one of the  squadrons three trainers.

I can tell you now that after nearly thirty years obeying what I thought were unyielding laws of aerodynamics I was pretty beaten up by what this bird could do.

Over the three weeks of training the ‘advisor’ instructor from the Kulu Kingdom showed me how to fly backwards, then spin on the spot and then fly forwards. I landed on perches usually large enough for a knats. The flyer doesn’t fly, its a misnomer. What it does is use magnetic super-coherency to create thrust and lift against the world’s own magnetic field, from any point on its surface. It can hover inverted, any attitude any angle of attack.

After completing and passing the training I returned to my squadron eagerly waiting for the political pukes to negotiate with the Kingdom for a consignment of flyers. As per usual they managed to push so hard that the Kulus walked and we still operate with VT90’s which are looking real whisky delta these days.
