Garrissa was an ethnic Kenyan colony world, first settled in 2210 A.D. It became a fast growing and ambitious colony which became a significant local industrial centre very quickly.
The Garrissan economic miracle eventual waned and by 2550 A.D. its economy had been shrinking for nearly a hundred years. In 2579 Scout ships from the Garrisan Survey and Exploration Ministry happened across the
Doradas asteroid belt, orbiting the long overlooked red dwarf of Tunja. The wealth of the asteroid field was a promise of planetary revitalisation that was considered to important lose. When the Garrisan claim on
the system was disputed by the Omutan government which followed up with a claim that its own survey vessel had been first to chart the system.
The two governments drove each other to the brink of war. The Confederation didn’t take the conflict seriously as it was over an unpopulated system and neither Garrisa or Omutan had
particularly large military forces.
In 2581 the conflict escalated into war, Omutan forces used an anti matter bomb to hit Garrisa’s main industrial asteroid which was busy gearing up for war production. The Garrisan
government planned to retaliate with the use of a weapon called the Neutronium Alchemist, the attack was foiled and before a second attack could be mounted Omutan fearing its own destruction, has its mercenary
forces bomb Garrisa with antimatter bombs.
The attack all but wiped out the entire population of the colony. The greatest single loss of life in the history of mankind.
Those Garrisan’s who had been off world at the time were awarded the contested Dorados asteroids as compensation for the terrible destruction their colony had undergone.
