Kursk is an ethnic Russian colony world, one of only a dozen which have been placed on worlds which are in a tidal lock. This means that Kursk has stopped rotating. One half of the
world is a scorched desert where water can not exist in liquid form. The other side of the world is in permanent frozen darkness.
The Colonists have settled on the coasts of the twighlight seas which ring the zone that exists precariously between the two hells.
Kursk is a dying world, the remaining life clings to the remaining life zone, forced to adapt to an fragile existence. Early testing of the worlds oceans indicated large quantities
of precious metals which could be simply collected from the silt. Unfortunately the oceans are quite acidic and it proved uneconomical to maintain the processing facilities. The colonists worked very hard to
transfer their efforts to alternate naturally resources, after thirty years of economic depression success came from the processing of Silicon, which could exploit the acids from sea water as part of the extraction
process.
Kursk has now paid off its colonisation loans and has started to invest it’s profits into major improvements of its manufacturing industries. Soon it is hoped that it will be in a
position to begin the construction of its own starship construction facilities.
