Norfolk is one of the few terra-compatible worlds to be placed within a close-binary star system, where two stars generally create temperature extremes that are not congusive to the
support of life.
The Colony was settled by the Norfolk Land Company which has a very unusual plan for its colonisation efforts. The Norfolk settlers were turning their back on the 23rd century and
returning to a mostly pre-industrial way of life. The local constitution bans almost all high technology, as well as providing a ‘traditional’ form of society that has more in common with 17th Century England than
an Interstellar society of the 27th.
There are a number of ‘cheats’. Most engines run from electron matrix generators rather than steam engines. Basic electrical engineering is employed, though only in essential areas.
The world has a single major export which generates much of its economic wealth, Norfolk Tears is an alcoholic drink, probably the most desired and scarce drink in the confederation
as the Norfolk Rose from which it is ‘collected’ can only grow under the unusual seasonal conditions of Norfolk.
