Nyvern is a colony that has undergone much upheaval and internecine struggle. Early in the history of extra terrestrial colonisation, worlds that were open for settlement where
settled by Govcentral with very broad racial and cultural mixes. The aim was to produce worlds which developed multicultural societies. Nyvern was the colony which ended this rather hopeful strategy.
The early years of development on any colony world can be very harsh. Age old animosity and resentment between peoples can fuel disorder and racial violence. On Nyvern, the
population turned on Govcentral and forced it to withdraw from its governing position. In doing so the population was left in isolation for almost twenty years. During this time the entire population was
redistributed, mostly by force into different ethnic groups.
The brutality and hostility that was fuelled by this effective collapse in civil order weighs heavily on the population, even after hundreds of years. Nyverns nations are amongst the
most backward and inward looking of any in the confederation. The wealthier nations maintain strategic defence platforms, but are uniquely focused on the defence against aggression from their neighbours rather than
from external threats from other systems. The future looks grim for the inhabitants unless they can find a way to overcome their own history.
