Van Meisan is one of the largest worlds that has been settled by humans. Thanks to the planets low density the gravity is somewhat lower than expected, though for visitors 1.2g has a
noticeable effect of their short term agility and endurance.
The first settlers elected to modify the genes of their offspring to ensure mesomorphic (medium to short height with heavy skeletons) physiology is prevalent.
Now almost all Van Meisans are shorter and heavier than average humans, while being slightly stronger but less athletic. They have no problems adapting to lower gravity environments,
having been protected from bone and muscle entrophy in the same way that Edenists have.
The local economy has been helped by the close proximity of the Japanese Imperium with which it enjoys a great deal of trade for the Van Meisan agricultural produce.
Most of the worlds inhabitants live on the coast of the giant lakes and seas. There are no open stretches of water that could be classed as oceans, there effectively being one great
continent. The planet remains heavily volcanic. Eruptions occur about once per month, although there are no settlements placed close to any active volcanoes.
