The German war ministry confirmed this afternoon that the commander-in-chief of the Wehrmacht forces in Czechoslovakia has accepted the surrender of the Czech capital from Emil Hacha, head of the provisional Czech government that took power after president Eduoard Benes and his cabinet escaped to Switzerland. The formal cease-fire agreement between Czechoslovakia and Germany will be signed this evening at 8:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time...

Among the crowd witnessing this travesty are throngs of Sudeten Nazis, who obsequiously cheer every deceitful word from the SS commander’s mouth. Hundreds of miles away, Heydrich’s master Adolf Hitler applauds this travesty as “a great moment for peace in Europe”...

Hitler’s arrogant belief in an easy victory over the Poles was dealt a jarring blow with the Soviet declaration of war on Germany.
