In the Corsican capital of Ajaccio-- birthplace of another notorious European warlord, Napoleon Bonaparte --British bombers destroy tons of Nazi ammunition that would otherwise have been put to use by the Wehrmacht against Allied troops! Corsican anti-Nazi partisans aid the bombers’ lethal mission by blowing up German anti-aircraft positions... From the 2012 Nine Network documentary The Battle For Corsica: The Germans had originally occupied Corsica in the hope that it would give them a high strategic advantage point in the Mediterranean. But with Allied troops pushing the German army back across neighboring Sardinia it started to become increasingly apparent to Hitler’s generals this hope was doomed to disappointment...
