Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You, Part 28: The Third Russian Revolution
by Chris Oakley

From the book Factory Town: Novosibirsk’s Role In The Russian Civil War, copyright 2052 Harvard University Press:

When the NPRM first captured Novosibirsk in March of 2012 it was widely assumed that their chief motive for doing so had been to gain control of the city’s industrial base in order so they could use it to manufacture weapons. As it happened, however, the insurgents had a rather different purpose in mind. One of the handicaps that had greatly plagued the rebel forces during the early days of the war was their reliance on a series of makeshift temporary headquarters; this habit made it difficult for the rebels to properly co-ordinate their military operations or build the political credibility necessary to secure foreign backing for their cause. By taking control of Novosibirsk, the rebel forces finally had a fixed political and strategic nerve center; their diplomatic stock abroad began to rise accordingly...

As the tide of the conflict shifted increasingly in favor of the rebels and ever greater areas of Russian land came under the NRPM’s control, Novosibirsk’s evolution as the capital of the rebel territories continued apace; after the rebel armies successfully turned back an attempt by government forces to retake the city in November of 2012, Russian president Dmitri Medvedev started losing prestige in the eyes of many foreign powers as they came to regard the NPRM and not his own regime as the rightful government of a war-devastated Russia...

From the April 25th, 2013 broadcast of NBC Nightly News:

The Swedish government today dropped a political bombshell that may change the power equation in the Russian civil war.
