The weather changes which overtook the world in the wake of the 1994

shift of the earth’s magnetic poles proved to be beyond even the ability of

were confronted with as the climate got steadily colder. By 2035, a third of

the continental US was uninhabitable, rendered a frozen wasteland by the

polar shift; the rest was dangerously overcrowded due in part to the almost

endless waves of refugees fleeing south from parts of North America left

barren by the change. Not even the 2021 closing of the US-Canadian border

seemed to have had any effect on the overcrowding problem...
