2101 All Hell breaks loose on the Freedom Federation (FF) - Blurgiss Empire (BE) border. After several years of peace, the FF cross the border inward of Wazzen. Their objective is a slave planet (Delta Sierra 2 - DS2) that the Mutual Defence Treaty 2 (MDT2) members (United Commonwealth of Planets [UCP], Vargary [VF], Lyonies [LF], & the Drey [DC]) came across in 2070, but were pushed back from by BE counterattacks.

The other MDT2 members are taken unawares by the FF action. The BE, though, counterattack, defeat the FF fleet, and are only stopped by Commonwealth Defence Forces (CDF) at Wazzen. Neither side, however, had anything planned & as a result confusion reigns.

Reinforcements arrive from the MDT2 members & push the BE back to the border.

UCP investigations determine, contrary to FF arguments, that FF restarted the war. UCP, LF, VF & DC all protest FF actions & threaten to withdraw. Before debate continues, however, BE begin offensive action along the entire front.

2102 MDT2 manage to hold the BE back. Casualties are once again high. Public opinion is mixed, particularly when it becomes common knowledge that the FF started it this time.

A new fleet is established (MF8) that involves contingents from all MDT2 members. It also includes the latest Next Generation Weapons (NGW) designs. MF8 attacks inward from Wazzen with the same objective as the FF MF6 had the year before. After heavy fighting & re-enforced by a refitted MF6, MF8 reaches DS2, last seen 30 years ago.

Unfortunately it is found dead. Analysis shows that the BE destroyed the planet about 28 years ago. There are no survivors.

In the UCP elections, two fundamental events occur. The first is that President David Wilson is defeated, in a shock result, by the Renaissance candidate Paul Tuckey. Tuckey was a general in the CDF & vows to end the war with the BE defeated & the slaves made free. His popular quote becomes a war motto "A ten cent bullet stops a million dollar education every time!" His other often quoted phrase "Time to kick some alien butt!", does not go down too well with the other members of the MDT2. Nonetheless, they tolerate him due to that fact that he means BE butt.

The other event witnesses the referendum for Phase 3 of the Confederate Planetary Community (CPC) take place. The results are very close. Unfortunately the UCP votes no. Phase 3 will have to wait.

The Olympic Games is held on Eden. No one is surprised when Eden wins the most gold medals. VF is next followed by DC.

Eden’s population of 5.5 billion equals Earth. Eden stops all immigration & introduces schemes for colonists to settle on other planets within the UCP.

2103 The war continues & the BE show no signs of defeat. MDT2 offenives get no where. The BE counterattack, but are held.

CDF reports to UCP the results of their analysis of DS2.

President Tuckey orders CDF to "finish off those genocidal bastards & erase them from Creation."

CDF, taking Tuckey’s word literally, order NGW to recommence the BlackStar program & deliver one operational device by 2105.

2104 The war effort increases as the MDT2 members are now fully mobilised. Public opinion, until now divided, backs the war effort. Important to many is to finish the war once & for all. However, the idealism of the previous conflicts, is clearly missing. There is no huge "free the slaves" ethos now, only a "time to get it over with" atmosphere.

1MF conducts a masterful offensive that overruns their BE rivals. The BE fall back almost 25 light years before they can halt the 1MF advance. Actually, 1MF had to halt its advance in order to regroup. 1MF liberates two slave planets in the process; Bain & Nummia. Both join the FF.

The Cosmic Cup (CC) is hosted by the LF. In a shock victory, Germany wins over Utopia 3-2.

2105 BE counterattack the bulge that 1MF had created the year before when it liberated Bain & Nummia. 1MF is forced to withdraw on Nummia& manages to stop the BE from invading the planet.

A similar situation occurs at Bain where the 7MF defeats the BE fleet. 7MF quickly counterattacks & fights its way through to Nummia. The BE withdraw, but neither 1MF or 7MF are in any condition to pursue.

NGW delivers one BlackStar to CDF. CDF do not inform President Tuckey of this transaction. CDF orders more BlackStars.

Utopia places restrictions on immigration. The 25% of the planet’s surface that is permitted to be used, under the strict guidelines placed upon settlement by the UCP, is filling up fast. Changes in the guidelines have been sought, but the UCP has said no every time.

Earth’s population remains at 5.5 billion.

Eden’s population reaches 5.6 billion

Utopia’s population reaches 2 billion

Sierra’s population reaches 264 million

Saturn Prime’s population reaches 111 million.

Pacifica’s population reaches 19 million.

2106 Battles continue all along the BE front. Casualties remain high.

Like previously, some Braggah crew members of the FF get out of hand & are arrested for destroying a BE ship that had surrendered. The VF & LF are appalled when the CDF turns a blind eye to the event. They become even more upset when it comes out that the CDF has, on several occasions, done the same thing recently.

NGW delivers two more BlackStars to the CDF. More are to be delivered.

CDF, in total secrecy, tests one of its BlackStars in the old Military Restriction Zone (MRZ). Although the reason for the MRZ has well & truly passed, no one in the UCP has bothered to do anything with it. CDF continues to police it, albeit with limited resources. United Planetary Explorations (UPX) continue to survey the vast region, but are now only a shadow of their former self. The war has stripped them of resources & funds. Exploration is limited.

UPX, however, identify a space anomaly at D9 in the MRZ for a few brief minutes. D9 is in a remote region & UPX simply notes the event for exploration at some future date.

The Olympic Games is hosted by the DC. It is a rather sombre affair & the crowds stay away. Although the host planet wins the most medals, few people pay attention.

2107 MDT2 mount offensives all along the BE front. Particular attention is given to expanding the Bain-Nummia bulge. In the action that follows, the BE fight hard, but finally withdraw. In doing so they leave behind another slave planet (DS3), which they destroy in the process. The FF are furious as a result. CDF share similar feelings as well.

Unlike planet DS2, there are about 1 million survivors from a population of 1.2 billion. Like the Morabs before them, the surviving Kullon are transferred to Phoenix & given refuge status.

The BE offer a cease fire which is thoroughly rejected by UCP & FF. President Tuckey, in an election year, proclaims "No conditions, but unconditional surrender!" He goes on to state that "… those green skinned, no good, two timing whores, can & will be sent to Hell." Aids quickly reminded Tuckey that the DC have green coloured skin as well as the BE. Tuckey quickly apologised to the DC. However, his statement about Hell will come to haunt him for the rest of his life.

Nonetheless, even though the UCP has an admitted foot-in-mouth president, he is re-elected anyway for a second term. Tuckey appears to be the man to do the job.

2108 FF concentrate their three fleets at Kullon. In the largest offensive to date, all three fleets attack & overrun the BE. The FF are eventually halted at a BE colony called Blurmon some 20 light years from Kullon. Here the BE make a desperate stand & feed reinforcements into the battle.

FF land forces invade the planet, but are heavily defeated. The Braggah units go down fighting; none surrender.

It soon becomes obvious to the MDT2 leadership that the BE intend to hold Blurmon. They too send reinforcements to support the FF. Fighting is savage & no quarter is given or asked for.

MDT2 establish two more fleets & send them to the front.

UPX finally sends a ship to investigate D9. When the UPX Kirk arrives in the D9 solar system they cannot find the planet. Scans do not even show any particle traces of the planet. Again further analysis suggests that the planet never existed. But it was there!

The CC is held on Saturn Prime. Again the crowds stay away & the CC is reported to be the most unenthusiastic on record. Eden defeated VF 4-2 to take the Cup.

2109 The fighting around Blurmon continues. The wreckage of combat ships litter the Blurmon solar system. Battle comes & goes as the next wave of reinforcements arrive. The BE make it clear they will not withdraw from this planet.

FF try landing another invasion force, but again it is not successful. This time, however, the invasion force is successfully evacuated.

The BE request a cease fire, but Tuckey refuses. He demands their unconditional surrender. Although this means the liberation of the slaves, this issue has lapsed into the background. The priority is simply to win the war.

CDF 1st fleet, making up 10MF, arrives at Blurmon. Although the fighting is mostly planned & conducted by the FF, 10MF remains separate & only intervenes when necessary. FF requests CDF to transfer control of 10MF to them, but they refuse.

UPX report their findings about D9 to UCP. UCP show concern, but the war is more important. No action is taken.

2110 And Hell's mouth opened. Fighting around Blurmon continues. The FF, try all they might, could not force the BE fleet to withdraw. Again another invasion force was unsuccessful & had to be evacuated.

Casualties have become unacceptable to continue the battle. VF, LF & DC all concur that the resources being taken up at Blurmon could be used better elsewhere. There are five MDT2 fleets involved with the Blurmon business.

CDF orders FF to withdraw from around the planet to permit 10MF to have one last attack. The FF at first refuse, but after heated debate, finally withdraw. The BE, thinking that the FF withdrawal is a trap, do not pursue & hold where they are in defensive positions. The BE were right about a trap, but they were wrong not to pursue.

10MF approaches the planet & engage the BE. When the BE are fully engaged, the CDF battlecruiser Hammerhead, launches a missile at the planet. 10MF immediately withdraws. The FF watch in total frustration, thinking that years of sacrifice has been lost by the CDF running away.

BlackStar detonates. Immediately a black hole, larger than the planet, obscures its view. A large number of BE ships, almost half of the BE fleet that is present, disappear into the darkness. After a few minutes, the blackness itself disappears leaving stars. Blurmon has been sent to Hell.

Everyone who witnessed the event is stunned. Both sides are numb. No one moves. The silence of space just became more silent.

BE begin scanning for the planet as does the FF & 10MF ships. There is no sign of Blurmon, not even one atom.

The BE are the first to move. They withdraw rapidly, but the FF & 10MF do not pursue. No one really knows what to do. Fewer even know what had just happened.

Word rapidly spreads about Blurmon; both in the military & civilian realms. Tuckey discovers, to his horror, about Blurmon while watching CNN. Needless to say he goes ballistic.

Tuckey orders the Commonwealth Police Force (CPS) to arrest the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They, however, defend themselves by quoting Tuckey, saying they were told to "... defeat the BE by all and any means necessary." They also add that Tuckey himself stated that he would send the Blurgiss to Hell!

Tuckey sacks the Joint Chiefs regardless.

However, the deed has been done & UCP has the ultimate weapon. UCP sends a communique to the BE ordering them to surrender.

After hearing of the destruction of Blurmon, the Olympic Games were called off.

2111 After the BlackStar detonation, fighting had almost ceased along the entire front. Both sides took a long breath hoping that the war may be over.

And so it was. BE, in a communique, unconditionally surrendered. All along the front, MDT2 forces advanced into BE territory. BE surrendered as they advanced. All the slaves were freed. It was a moment of greatness.

Millions of military personnel came home to victory celebrations. But not all were heroes.

The UCP Assembly, and the public, were outraged at President Tuckey for the Blurmon event. Impeachment proceedings were started by Bock B’laree, a Morab from Phoenix, and quickly gained pace. Although Tuckey kept his promise that he would end the war, no one believed him when he stated that he knew nothing about BlackStar. The Impeachment process was successful & Tuckey was sacked.

Vice President Johnson took over the presidency. It was somewhat ironic that Johnson’s ancestor gained the presidency of the USA while Vice President.

2112 BE territory became occupied & split up between the MDT2 powers. This was not as difficult as it first seemed as only three planets were populated by Blurgiss. A further three comprised populations of Honour Citizens, while the bulk, nineteen planets, had slave populations.

The Commonwealth War Crimes Tribunal (CWCT) moved from Earth to Blurgiss Prime. Cases were brought against millions of BE & their allies. The CWCT would be in session for years to come.

Immediately the slave planets joined the FF, as this was the original intension of the UCP. But it soon became obvious that differences existed. The original FF members had become affluent, while the new members had nothing. Although aid poured in from the CPC, the older FF members refused to help the new members other than that which was necessary.

The Wazzen-Quotos Union (WQR) becomes independent, although restrictions are placed upon any military.

President Johnson was re-elected.

The CC was hosted by the FF. The hosts, though, were defeated in the first round. Brazil defeated VF 5-4 in the final, in what was an extremely entertaining match.

2113 MRZ was annexed by UCP. No one raised any objections due to the fact that the MRZ had been de facto UCP territory for decades.

The Innocence Protection Zone (IPZ) was established with a 5 light year sphere around the planet. The same conditions as with the Peace Protection Zone (PPZ), are also applied. UPX could conduct observation & research missions as could other researchers. All other activity was restricted.

UCP quietly ordered CDF to intervene next time if a major war started on Innocence.

Aid continued to flow to the FF.

BE territory continued to be occupied by MDT2 forces. Some consideration was given for limited autonomy, but the FF vetoed the idea before serious talks began.

The Commonwealth Rugby Board (CRB), noticing the success of soccer, decided to expend their game to the friends of the UCP. The first game played, outside of the UCP, was hosted by the LF. The two best sides, traditional rivals Australia & New Zealand, where chosen to play one of their Test Matches. The LF had never seen a game of rugby & flocked to witness another of these human’s sports. Within a minute from kick off panic filled the stadium as rugby ignorant Lyonise fled in terror. LF police intervened & stopped play wanting to arrest the players for committing violence leading to riotous action. After lengthy negotiations, the police where finally convinced that rugby was played this way & it only looked violent. Alas the stadiums were empty, save for a few thousand amused humans. Australia defeated New Zealand 25-23.

2114 Arguments within the FF finally came to a head. Fifteen of the younger member planets walked out, and formed their own Coalition of Independent Planets (CIP). As the name suggests, it is decentralised & each planet has autonomy over their own affairs except foreign & defence policy.

FF & CIP kept a cordial relationship, however, as the bonds of ex-slave planets remained important to them.

At UCP insistence, the three remaining Honour Citizen planets, Hippa, Nolange & Jaffona, were granted limited autonomy in the Hi-Lang-Ja Republic (HR). Although only a republic in name, the intension is that in the near future, it will become a fully fledged democratic republic.

The Olympic Games returned to Earth. Once again they became popular, now that peace had truly returned. The CIP were invited to join, albeit rushed, and a small team was entered. Eden dominated the medal count, followed by India & China.

2115 As peace becomes firmly established, the economy of the CPC is returning to normal. Jobs are easy to get & the unemployment rate hovers around 1%. As a result, UCP declare that no citizen is living in poverty.

Commonwealth Health Commission (CHC), however, declare life in the FF & even more so in the CIP is hard. The millions that were employed in the military are now unemployed. Unlike in the CPC, there was no established economy to come home too. Poverty & unemployment is rife, especially in the CIP.

CRB tries again. Although the Rugby Worlds Cup is to be played on Earth, extensive telecast coverage is arranged with CNN. This coverage will go throughout the CPC, FF & CIP. The LF, remembering their last experience with Rugby two years ago, ban the telecast immediately. CRB try to negotiate, but they refuse to change their decision. DC ban the telecast too, but after negotiations, lift the ban. Only the FF & CIP take any interest in the telecast.

2116 Utopia ceases immigration due to lack of space.

UCP, concerned about the population problem, requests if CHC/UPX can rehabilitate another planet. D3 is considered suitable & work begins. UPX renames the planet Nirvana.

CPC Commissioner suggests to the members that Phrase 3 should be considered again. All four members decide to hold the referendum in 2117.

The remainder of the old BE is given limited autonomy in the guise of the Grand Republic (GR). All military is banned & democratic government is essential. MDT2 forces will continue occupying the GR until a future date is finalised.

The CC is hosted by VF. VF defeats Eden in the final 2-1.

2117 UCP elections are held & are hotly contested. A record seven final presidential candidates fight it out, all of whom are popular. It comes down to two & history is made. The Phoenix candidate Bock B’laree defeats Eden’s Mary Peirce in an extremely close election.

President Bock B’laree declares "Never will the tyranny of evil rule again! Let it be known that we will fight any enemy, help any friend, and free any slave." UCP citizens politely applaud, but hope it will not come to that again. Besides, there are no more enemies.

The CPC referendum is successful throughout the CPC. The reforms first laid out in 2100 are finally passed. They will become law in 2020.

2118 CIP calls for more aid as millions of its citizens are starving. UCP increases aid, as does the other members of the CPC. In a gesture of reconciliation, WQU also send aid shipments. The FF declare that they cannot increase their support due to their own problems. HR are barely feeding their own populations, while GR, like the CIP, are solely reliant upon imported supplies.

GR society has broken down. MDT2 forces are constantly putting down riots & revolts. With no slaves to work for them, GR citizens are having to the do basics themselves. Food production is the largest problem. Previously only slaves produced food, most of which was imported from the slave planets. However, both the CIP & FF refuse to send food.

UPX inform UCP that Innocence began sending their first satellites into orbit.

VF is host to the Olympic Games. Utopia wins the most gold medals, followed closely by VF then DC.

2119 The rioting throughout the GR increases. As Braggah troops start their duty on Blurgiss Prime, they ruthlessly crush a food riot. VF troops witness this event & order the Braggah to cease fire. They refuse. The VF troops open fire on the Braggah & for a few hours battle rages on Blurgiss Prime between allies.

FF condemns the VF action, but the other MDT2 partners support VF.

VF withdraws its forces from FF & GR territory. Furthermore, VF freezes all aid to FF.

President Bock B’laree pleads with the FF leadership to be "ethically & morally righteous & be an example to our vanquished enemies". The FF politely acknowledges B’laree, but does little to restrain its troops.

2120 Phase 3 of the CPC comes into effect. There are no huge celebrations.

UPX’s budget is doubled. New ships are ordered.

Riots on GR cease as food production centres start to meet local requirements. Still, the FF troops treat their once owners with little pity.

The CC is hosted by the FF. The tension between the VF & FF is still evident as witnessed by the VF withdrawing its team from the competition.

2121 CIP eventually matches its food production requirements. Other areas, such as heavy industries, still lag behind their neighbours.

UCP raises the issue of inviting the FF into the CPC. The VF flatly reject the suggestion, supported by the LF.

FF occupation forces in the GR begin a harassment "policy" toward LF personnel. LF complains. Again the FF leadership politely acknowledges the issue, but does little to restrain their personnel.

HR complains to the UCP about the harassment continually suffered at the hands of the FF. UCP bypasses the issue, preferring not to get dragged into a conflict with the FF.

CIP establishes its first fleet from surplus Liberation War equipment.

2122 FF continues its harassment of its neighbours & one time allies.

LF withdraw all forces from the GR & FF territories. All aid to the FF is also frozen.

FF deliberately crosses the border into HR territory, doubling their occupation forces. Both the VF & LF forces go on alert. FF withdraws.

In an ugly election campaign, President Bock B’laree is defeated by Eden candidate Raison Della Rossa. Della Rossa immediately warns the FF that the UCP will no longer tolerate recent "human rights violations". There is no response from the FF leadership.

A dark cloud hangs over the Olympic Games hosted by the VF. FF boycott the games & request other teams do too. VF wins the most gold, followed by Eden & DC.

2123 FF ships start to act in a hostile manner along the CIP & HR borders. All the other powers alert their fleets & send in reinforcements.

Tensions in the GR grow as a result & shots are exchanged between FF & DC troops. This spreads to ships patrolling the sector. Thankfully a cease fire is quickly arranged.

Negotiations quickly take place & tensions ease. However, one thing is clear; the old MDT2 arrangement is finished.

2124 Negotiations come to a settlement. All parties sign the Century Treaty (CT). The treaty has a number of fundamental provisions; chiefly all forces leave the GR HR & WQU. Neither the GR or HR is permitted any military. A phased withdrawal also occurs in the CIP, where by 2035 no foreign military can be based. CIP has no military restrictions. WQU has some military, but its numbers are restricted.

The CT comes into effect in 2125.

As a result of the CT, MDT2 ceases to exist.

UCP quickly signs a separate defence treaty with CIP, as do VF, LF & DC. The new Defence Support Treaty (DST), as the name suggests, is restricted to defence only. Furthermore, the CT treaty is adhered to & no DST forces, other than CIP, are to be based within CIP territory.

Earth hosts the CC. All teams participate, although there is a cool reception for the FF team. Sierra defeats Russia in the final 3-2.

2125 The CT comes into force. All is quiet as the tension of the previous years dissipates.

CHC/UPX inform UCP that Nirvana is ready for habitation.

UCP immediately opens Nirvana for colonisation. Over population has become a problem for the UCP. Three planets, Earth, Eden & Utopia are straining their environments & Sierra has almost reached capacity as well. UCP announces more colony immigration schemes as a result. It is hoped that Nirvana, like Renaissance, both being modelled after Earth, will be an attractive destination for immigrants.

Earth’s population remains at 5.5 billion.

Eden’s population remains at 5.8 billion

Utopia’s population reaches 2.9 billion

Sierra’s population reaches 502 million

Saturn Prime’s population reaches 199 million.

Renaissance’s population reaches 25 million

2126 All remains quiet between the CT members.

WQU begins trading at significant levels with its neighbours. The reforms have been remarkable, considering both planets were ruined due to the battles of the Liberation War.

CIP are still having problems developing, but trade with the WQU eases the deficiencies.

GR, although past the food riots, is still having hassles reforming. Suicide is high, in fact GR has the highest rates throughout the CT members.

CHC now spends half its aid budget & operating cost outside of UCP territory. GR is the number one recipient of CHC aid & services.

UPX announce the Big Ear project. UPX intend to, along with NGW, develop the latest in scanning & detection technology. Big Ear should be able to detect & locate signals over a distance of 1 000 light years. This should not only cut exploration costs drastically, but allow easier detection of other space faring civilisations. UPX has noted that it has been decades since any new discoveries have occurred.

UCP picks up the Olympic Games bill & the Games is hosted by Nirvana. The crowds come due to a travel concession that UCP also covers. It is seen as an advertising stunt for colonisation & complaints are launched by FF, CIP & DC. Nonetheless, they all participate. VF wins the most medals, followed by Eden & to everyone’s surprise CIP.

2127 Immigrants, after seeing the Olympics on Nirvana, start to flock to the planet. Many come from Eden where both the planet government & UCP colony programs make migration extremely tempting.

CDF numbers finally lower back to pre-Liberation War levels. Large numbers of surplus warships are either sold to the CIP or "recycled". No new ship designs are planed for the near future.

NGW downsizes as a result. Only a few continue with weapons research, while the rest of NGW concentrates on the Big Ear project with UPX.

2128 President Raison Della Rossa is re-elected.

UPX, with an increased budget & new ships, begins to explore along the galactic rim from Omega. Several bases are established, but no inhabitable planets are discovered.

The CC is hosted by Duel. After two weeks several members of the CIP & FF teams catch the Looney Duel Toons & require treatment by the CHC. The treatment is successful, but both teams have to withdraw from the competition. Duel, with the home advantage, defeats VF 4-3 in the final.

2129 UPX discover a planet similar to Omega some 30 light years further along the rim. Although arid, it can, nonetheless, support humans. UPX call it Fin. UPX establishes a base on the new planet.

UCP annexe & extend the border from Omega. However, UCP does not open Fin for colonisation.

Elsewhere, all remains peaceful.

2130 UPX quickly discovers that, like Omega, Fin is rich in scarce minerals & elements.

UCP permits a trial mining colony on Fin, but again refuses general colonisation.

The UCP Reserve Bank (UCPRB) & CPC Commissioner inform President Raison Della Rossa that the economy is slowing down. Although no recession is foreseen, the reduction in spending on war equipment has finally hit the economy. Similar economic situations occur in the VF, LF & DC.

LF hosts the Olympic Games. It is noted that spending is down. LF wins the most medals, followed by Eden & DC.

2131 UCPRB notes that the economy continues to slow. Unemployment rises to 2.5% as a result.

The Interplanet Cricket Board finally decides to expand the game. The Worlds Cup, which until now had been solely played on Earth, holds its first tournament on Eden. Although only partly successful, most humans show little interest, & the few non-humans that come to watch have no idea what the game is about. The West Indies defeat Southern Africa 332/8 to 325/all out.

2132 UCP elections are a rather quiet affair. Although concerns about the economy are debated, little else is. Eden candidate Mark Noffler, relaying on nothing but Eden’s numbers, defeats his rival Jennifer Hyman from Mexico. It was a good election to loose.

Representatives from Nirvana are included, for the first time, in the elections.

FF hosts the CC. It is considered one of the greatest competitions in the history of soccer. The final between CIP & FF is decided by a penalty shoot out which CIP wins 7-6.

2133 The economy continues to slow. UCPRB announce that if an improvement is not seen soon, an official recession will occur next year. Unemployment across the UCP has reached 6%.

President Mark Noffler considers various economic policies, but opinions differ. Some reforms are introduced. Other CPC members are enduring similar economic turndowns.

The Baseball Association decides to try that which the cricket failed at. Play off series are planned for LF, VF & DC. Although none of these CPC members play baseball, it is hoped that leagues will be established as a result of exposure. The series hardly raises eyebrows in either the VF or DC & the idea flops. In LF, no one seemed to tell the Baseball Association the experiences of the rugby. LF "fans" are entertained by the marching bands & so forth, but when the players come out things change. Soon, as the bat starts swinging & balls start flying, the LF "fans" start running. Panic fills the stadium & the police have to intervene. Short of being arrested for inciting riots, the teams restart the game in front of a small human crowd. Brawling between the teams later erupts, which ensures police intervention. The first game, let alone the series, is never completed.

LF bans baseball as a result. In future, all further unknown human "sports" must pass government censorship.

2134 UCPBR announce that the UCP is in recession. Unemployment is at 9%. UCP announce welfare support, but it is seen as a band-aid solution.

CPC reports similar economic problems everywhere. By the end of the year, all CPC members are in recession.

The Olympics are hosted by Eden. Although popular, numbers are down, for both crowds & competitors. Eden narrowly wins the most gold medals, followed by USA & VF.

2135 CPC reports the economy has stabilised, but there are no indications of improvement. Unemployment is 12% across the entire CPC region. The Commissioner suggests reforms, but he becomes one voice among many.

Unemployment within the UCP varies from planet to planet. Earth & Eden miss the worst of it, but some of the outer planets reach 15%. Many UCP citizens demand action, but President Noffler’s policies do little to improve the economy.

Earth’s population remains at 5.5 billion.

Eden’s population lowers to 5.6 billion

Utopia’s population reaches 3.1 billion

Sierra’s population reaches 536 million

Saturn Prime’s population reaches 253 million.

Renaissance’s population reaches 36 million

Pacifica’s population remains at 21 million.

Australis’s population reaches 19 million.

Navana’s population reaches 11 million

Duel’s population remains at 9 million.

Pheonix’ population reaches 9 million (4.5 million Morabs, 2 million Kullons)

Locus’ population remains at 6 million

Omega’s population remains at 5 million

Barrens’ population remains at 4 million

Mars, Alpha Four, Earth Moon, other small colonies & ships population remains at 51 million

2136 CPC reports that there is no improvement in the economy. Unemployment remains at 12%

MicroGates finally goes bust. VargCom, MicroGates major shareholder, likewise goes broke. Hundres of other corporations meet the same fate.

UCP continues to develop economic reform policies, but none are effective.

CHC reports cases of poverty are being identified throughout the UCP.

The CC is hosted by Earth. Many people come in order to forget their economic problems. Russia defeats LF 2-1 in the final.

2137 Due to the bad economy, President Noffler is defeated by the USA candidate Nancy Roosevelt. Copying the policies of her presidential ancestor, UCP increases spending ten fold. Public programs are introduced & many needed jobs created. Billions are spent throughout the UCP. Soon the unemployment rates begin to drop as a result.

CPC express alarm at first, but President Roosevelt brushes aside their concerns.

2138 UCPBR announces that the economy is improving. Unemployment has dropped to 8%

CPC still remains cautious. Yet a trickle down effect is being identified in the other CPC members as trade starts to increase again.

CHC report than the official poverty population has reached 7%. It admits, however, that the unofficial level is more like 15%

The Olympic Games is hosted by the CIP. Even though the economies of the CPC have been poor, the CIP has missed the down turn. Furthermore, the lack of aid has forced the CIP to forge ahead. It now rivals the FF & has major trading partners in the HR & WQU.

2139 UCPBR reports the economy is recovering well. Unemployment is down to 5%.

CPC advises the other members to introduce the policies of the UCP in their respective regions. Most already have to some extent.

UPX tests Big Ear for the first time. Although its range is only 250 light years, it is consider a major success.

2140 Across the CPC the economy is declared recession free. Unemployment within the CPC is down to 5%

UCPBR confirms the CPC declaration. Unemployment in the UCP is down to 2%

CHC announces poverty has almost ceased.

President Roosevelt’s opinion ratings are recorded as the highest any UCP leader has ever enjoyed.

Australis, which has recovered well from the recession, hosts the CC. Italy surprises everyone, coming from no where, to defeat Eden 4-3 in the final.

2141 UPX announce that the range of Big Ear has increased to 500 light years. Some interesting data has been collected & will be analysed soon.

As part of the economic recovery, UCP informs CDF to update its fleet.

CDF places an order with NGW to thus develop new ship designs.

2142 President Roosevelt is re-elected by the largest margin ever enjoyed by a UCP president.

In part of the victory celebrations, President Roosevelt calls for the next step in the CPC integration process.

CPC Commissioner concurs, & negotiations start on Earth at Athens.

The Olympics are hosted by Utopia. The local teams narrowly wins the most medals, followed closely by FF & CIP.

2143 CPC invite the FF & CIP to join & participate in the current negotiations. Both politely reject the offer.

CPC Negotiations continue.

2144 CPC conclude their negotiations & make an historic announcement. It will be put to a referendum that a United Federation of Planets (UFP) be formed from the current members of the CPC. An Assembly will be directly elected on a population base, while each planet will elect 6 senators each. The President will be directly elected by the citizens of the UFP. Cabinet will be formed from Congress where the President can chose whoever is appropriate for the position. The referendum will be held next year.

UPX announce that a new long range probe has been developed to complement Big Ear. The probes will have a range of 1000 light years.

The CC is hosted by the FF. For the first time, teams from WQU & HR participate. FF defeats Eden 2-0 in the final.

2145 UPX announces that the range of Big Ear has reached its 1000 light year objective. Numerous signals have been identified as possible evidence of other civilisations. One at the 1000 light year range limit appears very promising.

The referendum narrowly passes in all four sovereign regions. The vote was closest in the UCP. It was the votes from Phoenix that tipped the scales. The changes are unprecedented. 2147 is the date when the UFP will be born. Humans and aliens all living together as one. The universe has changed forever.

2146 UCP orders UPX to send a long distance probe to the distant signal 1000 light years away. It is calculated that it will take two years to reach its destination. A return signal will take at least 6 months to return.

The final "human" Olympic Games is held on Earth at Athens. This is to mark the end of one era & the celebration of another, as Athens becomes capital of the new UFP next year. Eden wins the most gold medals, followed by Utopia & LF.

2147 The year the Universe changed forever. The UFP is established. The elections are successful. The old ideals that seemed lost at the beginning of the century appears to have returned. The retiring UCP President Roosevelt narrowly wins over the VF candidate Von Blu’Var.

Roosevelt is sworn in as President of the UFP on the steps of the Acropolis in Athens. In her acceptance speech, Roosevelt decreed: "Let all Creation take note; that in the darkness that surrounds us all, let we the people be like the sun, but more so. Let us be the shinning aberration - one that will be an inspiration to those that know us now & those who one day will".

Celebrations are enjoyed across the entire UFP.

CDF & the other defence forces of the UFP becomes the United Defence Forces (UDF).

CHC integrates with the other health services & becomes the United Health Service (UHS)

A new federal police service is established called the Federal Police Agency (FPA)

UPX remains UPX.

2148 UFP gets on with the job. Although problems occur with the integration process, these are ironed out over time.

UPX reports no signal has been received from the long range probe. No reason can be identified as to why. UPX sends two more probes to ensure the chances of malfunction or other problems are reduced.

The CC, to celebrate the beginning of the UFP, is hosted on Earth in Greece. The competition is marred when drug testing indicates that members of the FF are taking performance enhancing substances. The FF deny the charges, but further testing confirms the earlier findings. The Drey defeat a gallant Pacifica team 2-1 in the final.

2149 UFP integration continues.

NGW hands over the first of the latest ship designs to the UDF. Every ship class has been redesigned in the review ordered by the old CDF. A new class, led by the UFP Dreadnought, becomes the most powerful warship to date. Its global structure, although limits speed & manoeuvrability, ensures that no "blind spots" hinder its weaponry.

2150 Although UPX continue to monitor & analyse the signals coming from deep space, again their probes do not return any information. UPX reports that the signals most definitely originate from a civilisation. They recommend a long distance manned mission.

UFP, riding high on goodwill, accepts the UPX findings and orders the mission to go ahead.

UPX name it the Discovery Mission & places an order with NGW to construct an appropriate vessel.

The first Unified Olympics is held on Eden. Vargary wins the most gold medals, followed by the Drey & Eden.
